Bad Breath and Its Causes

Bad breath is both individual and social disease.

Bad breath of an individual may stem from multiple causes intertwining with mouth cavity, ear-nose-throat, gastrointestinal and blood tables. Social aspect of bad breath may start from male-female relationships and may affect persons and working environment found in family and its vicinity. Unless bad breath is not treated, it is deemed as divorce cause of couples pursuant to civil code. Besides, it causes alienation of individuals in working environment and surroundings and this may create psychological problems.
When bad breath is tried to be examined in medical basis, it may stem from
1- Mouth cavity
2- Ear-nose-throat and sinus diseases
3- Gastrointestinal diseases
4- Bad habits
5- Onion, garlic and malnutrition
6- Side effects of some drugs used
7- Blood and urine (kidneys) diseases
8- Psychological causes
9- Pulmonary diseases

Sole cause of bad breath may not stem from mouth cavity. It may stem from 9 different embedded factors. Examination and analyses should be conducted in order and accurate cause should be revealed and not be mixed.

Causes stemming from mouth cavity;
a- Bad mouth care
b- Gingiva diseases  
c- Tooth tartars
d- Tooth decays
e- False fillings- old fillings
f- Falsely and badly made bridges
g- Fallacy of Tooth-Gingiva-Filling-Bridge relationships
h- Decayed, inflamed and cyst teeth
i- Eating nutrition emitting bad smell
j- Bio-chemical structure of saliva

Counted causes should be examined one by one in examination and panoramic x-ray. Different treatment methods should be applied according to obtained result.
Analyses of ear-nose-throat area, gastrointestinal area, blood and urine and pulmonary x-ray should be demanded in smells not stemming from mouth and issue should be assesses with specialist dentists and dental surgeons. This study must be a clinical study in which specialists accompany in this regard. It is false for sole specialist to give a decision.
Bad breath is not a disease treated easily with tartar cleansing and mouthwashes and it must be treated by detecting how it has been stemmed from without losing any time.
